10/09/07 - Lakers vs. Warriors - Honolulu, HI

GAME NOTES

LAKERS vs. GOLDEN STATE IN THE PRESEASON
After facing the Warriors in seven consecutive preseasons from 1999-2005 and a one year hiatus, the two teams will once again meet for a two game series at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dating back to the 1982 preseason, the Lakers are 11-7 versus Golden State in the preseason and have gone 5-5 in their last 10 meetings. This will be the ninth and 10th Lakers/Warriors contests played in Hawaii during the preseason, the previous eight having been split 4-4 by the two teams. The Lakers and Warriors last met during the 2005 preseason, also in Hawaii, splitting their two games in Honolulu 1-1.

PRESEASON
Last year, the Lakers split their eight preseason contests 4-4 after going 6-2 in their previous two preseasons. Since the first year of complete preseason records in 1982-83, the Lakers best preseason finish was a 7-1 mark in 1987-88. Under head coach Phil Jackson, the Lakers have had just one winning preseason, going 6-2 in 2005-06. Under Jackson, the Lakers have registered preseason records of 4-4 (2006-07), 6-2 (2005-06), 3-5 (2003-04), 4-4 (2002-03), 4-4 (2001-02), 3-5 (2000-01) and 3-5 (1999-2000).

OFFSEASON CHANGES
The 2007-08 Lakers roster includes 12 players from last season’s team, one more than last season and far above the previous two seasons where the Lakers brought back SEVEN players for the 2005-06 season and just SIX for the 2004-05 campaign. Only Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher remain from the Lakers 2000- 02 Championship runs, Fisher rejoining the team this season after spending the last three years in Golden State and Utah. The longest tenured Lakers beyond Bryant and Fisher are Brian Cook and Luke Walton, both of whom joined the team as rookies in 2003-04. Kwame Brown, Andrew Bynum, Maurice Evans, Jordan Farmar, Chris Mihm, Lamar Odom, Vladimir Radmanovic, Ronny Turiaf and Sasha Vujacic all return from last season while new faces include Elton Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Coby Karl, Andre Patterson and Larry Turner.
