Here we are in the beginning of October,. The weather is getting cooler here in Southern California and basketball is right around the corner. So I have a thought, why not start a Lakers blog. I am what they call a real Laker fan, have been since my childhood days when Showtime was alive. Oh how I miss those days. I miss seeing Magic Johnson's magical passes that would even have the television viewer wondering where the ball went to, sometimes it seemed like the basketball just vanished for a split second. I miss seeing the captain, Kareem Abdul Jabbar shooting the sky hook and mastering the shot like no one would ever do again. I miss seeing James Worthy going in for his 'Statue of Liberty" slam dunk. I miss seeing Byron Scott making jump shot after jump shot. I miss seeing an opposing team going in for a layup when it seemed no Laker was back on defense and then all of a sudden on the television screen you seen Michael Cooper come out of nowhere and reject the shot. I miss seeing the bench hustle like Kurt Rambis used to do.I miss hating the Boston Celtics. I miss hearing Chick Hearn announce the games like no other can. But those days are over, and have been over for quite some time now. After those days we went through 'The Lake Show',an exciting team with potential but just didn't have that star to take them to the NBA's elite. We watched a new big Magic Johnson come back and play point-forward for the end of a season. Then some kid came who would bring a bunch of hype with him named Kobe Bryant, the Lakers picked up Shaq O'Neal and we had some excitement back again. Add three more championships banners to the LA Lakers. Shaq leaves and goes to the Miami Heat and we wonder how our Lakers will do with Kobe leading the way. Unfortunately, not so good. Kobe then threatens the Lakers management and makes it known that he wants out. Now this can't be a good thing can it! Even if you were to trade Kobe for one of the NBA's top stars it would do no good for this team. You need a supporting cast the way the 'Showtime Lakers' did. The way the Kobe-Shaq teams did, they had Rick Fox, Robert Horry, Derick Fisher and others who were not NBA superstars but did their jobs. Now we come to this current Laker team of the 2007-2008 season. What do I think? I will let you know in my next post.
