Celtics 131 - Lakers 92 * Celtics win the 2008 NBA Championship

There will be no game 7 of the 2008 NBA Finals in Boston. The Celtics are the new 2008 NBA Champions! Doc Rivers seemed very emotional. Kevin Garnett looked like he wanted to cry, Allen and Pierce celebrated and the city of Boston cheered. Green and white were champions once again after so many years. What used to be customary has become so rare in Boston that emotions were just flying everywhere in Boston.

The Lakers, well, were just sitting on their bench just trying to ride this one out. Kobe Bryant looked like a man that was going to make Boston give all they had to win this game 6 in the first quarter. Bryant hit shot after shot on Boston but the Lakers trailed after one quarter 24-20. Kobe would cool down after that first quarter and no other Laker really warmed up as the Celtics took a 58-35 lead at the half.

Ray Allen wanted to get in on an acting job, just as Paul Pierce did in game 1. In the first quarter Allen got poked in the eye and went to the back dressing room. He took way longer than what he should have and came back out in the second quarter to a thundering ovation as he came out. These guys really like to get the cheers! I'll tell you this, they know how to really work the Boston crowd!

In the third quarter nothing got better for the Lakers as everything seemed to be going Boston's way as their lead got pushed up to 31 at one point.

As the fourth quarter started the Lakers were down by 29 points and everyone on Boston began to celebrate. The Lakers then just stopped playing in the fourth, seemed like they just gave up after being embarrassed for three quarters. in the fourth the Lakers just started shooting dumb shots that would lead to Boston Celtics highlights. Certainly not a way to go out! Why they just gave up I just don't know why! Sure, they were down by 29 with 12 minutes to play but you never know what could happen. They remember don't they how they were down by 24 with a little over 8 minutes to go in game 2 and got the Boston lead down to 2 points. If you can do that then you can trim a 29 point lead down with 12 minutes to go. Anyways, they didn't, they gave up in the fourth out of frustration.

Congratulations to the Boston Celtics!

Boston's big three all had terrific games. Peirce had 17 points, Garnett had 26 points and Allen had 26 points. They were actually the big 4 tonight as Rondo had 21 points and a handful of steals.

For the Lakers, no one really had a good game at all. Odom was 2-8 from the field and had 14 points thanks to 16 free throw attempts. Bryant had 22 points but that came hard as he was only 7-22 from the field. Gasol had only 11 points and was out muscled all night by Boston.

What can the Lakers say? We will have Bynum next year! Yes, you can look forward until next year. The Lakers will be a great team for many years to come but for now we must all deal with the fact that the Celtics are the new NBA champions! It really was not a great effort on the Lakers end but the Lakers are still #1.
