Lakers destroy Clippers home opener 117 - 79

The Lakers played locker room neighbors the LA Clippers. It was a new season opener for the new look Clips who have nine new players on their roster this year. Elton Brand was gone, Cory Maggette was gone but behold, Baron Davis was here and Marcus Camby was here. Well, Davis was, Camby couldn't play due to injury. It didn't matter though as the Lakers clobbered the Clippers by 38 points. The final score was Lakers 117 - Clippers 79. Kobe Bryant only had 16 points in the game but it was all he needed as team mates contributed to the scoring load. Seven different Lakers scored in double figures. Kobe led with his 16, Farmar and Fisher each had 15, Gasol had 13, Bynum had 12, Ariza had 11 and Chris Mihm had 10. Talk about being deep! This is a great start for the Lakers who beat Portland by 20 yesterday and now the Clippers by 37. Hopefully they can do the same once they hit the road and play their next game in Denver against the Nuggets who have to be revengeful after getting swept out of the playoffs in the first round last season by the Lakers.

Baron Davis didn't have a great game in his Clippers debut. Davis had 11 points
2 rebounds and 7 assist. Thorton led the Clippers with 16 points.

Just how good does Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy think the Lakers are? "Defensively they should be one of the top three teams and then they've got Kobe Bryant at the end of the game to cancel all bets," Dunleavy said. "If I'm picking, that's who I'm picking to win it all if they're healthy."
