Well the playoffs are set and the Lakers could not have ended up in a better position. The Lakers will face the Denver Nuggets in the first round, you see, all the hard fought season for that number one slot in the Western Conference did pay off. Not that the Denver Nuggets will be a cakewalk or anything, they did manage to win 50 regular season games this season and are probably the best eighth seeded team ever, but it is hard for anyone to imagine the Nuggets betting the Lakers in this series.
It was all set today when the Dallas Mavericks beat the New Orleans Hornets to secure that seventh seed and set themselves up in the first round with the second seeded Hornets. Dirk Nowitzki had no shame in saying that his team definitely did not want to face the Lakers in the first round, he said that New Orleans had a great year but that his Mavericks match up better against them.
Denver Nugget star Allen Iverson welcomed the first round match up against the Lakers saying how everyone considers Kobe Bryant as the best player on the planet but he thinks that of himself. All I can say is that we are going to get a free pass around this first round because the Lakers should win this series in six games at the most. Heck, I'm even thinking that we sweep this team. The Lakers did win the season series against them 3-0. Here is a breakdown of how this years 2008 first round playoff series ended up.
Eastern:
(8) Atlanta Hawks vs. (1) Boston Celtics
(7) Philadelphia 76ers vs. (2) Detroit Pistons
(6) Toronto Raptors vs. (3) Orlando Magic
(5) Washington Wizards vs. (4) Cleveland Cavaliers
Western:
(8) Denver Nuggets vs. (1) Los Angeles Lakers
(7) Dallas Mavericks vs. (2) New Orleans Hornets
(6) Phoenix Suns vs. (3) San Antonio Spurs
(5) Houston Rockets vs. (4) Utah Jazz
